Why We Created The Long Table Institute

Every Story Deserves a Place at The Long Table

When I was growing up, I spent much of my life searching for a place where I truly belonged.

It took many years for me to realise that belonging isn’t something we simply find. Sometimes, it is something we create.

That belief became the foundation of The Long Table Institute.

Why a long table?

Because a table is more than a piece of furniture.

It is where families gather.
Where colleagues solve problems.
Where ideas are shared.
Where strangers become friends.
Where difficult conversations begin.
Where people discover they are not alone.

And at the end of every long table, there is always room for one more chair.

That empty chair is intentional.

It represents the person who hasn’t arrived yet.
The voice that hasn’t been heard.
The story that hasn’t been told.

At The Long Table Institute, we believe that learning begins with curiosity, leadership begins with listening, and belonging begins with making room for others.

Through education, research, speaking, publishing and conversation, we hope to create spaces where people feel welcome to learn, ask questions and contribute their own experiences.

This is only the beginning.

Thank you for taking a seat at the table.

There’s always room for one more.
